Response of tolerant and wild type strains of Chlorella vulgaris to copper with special references to copper uptake system

چکیده
Copper tolerance in Chlorella vulgaris has been studied by comparing physiological properties and copper uptake in a wild type strain and a copper tolerant one. A concentration dependent reduction in growth rate, dry mass, and content of chlorophyll a, protein, sugars and amino acids was noticed in both strains at 1.0 and 400 !g l 1 copper. The reduction in all parameters was higher in the wild type strain than in the tolerant one. As compared to the wild strain, the tolerant strain showed insignificant loss of potassium and sodium. The data on proline accumulation showed a positive relationship between copper toxicity and proline accumulation in both strains, more pronounced in the tolerant strain. The copper uptake was influenced by the copper concentrations the algae had been exposed to during their previous growth: the lower the copper concentration in the culture medium, the higher the activity of the uptake and the capacity of the cells to accumulate copper.

Effects of copper oxide nanoparticles on the growth of Chlorella vulgaris
The increase of copper oxide nanoparticle (CuO-NP) utilization in industry during recent years has resulted in their entry into aquatic ecosystems. In light of this fact, we have studied the toxicity of CuO-NPs at various concentrations on Chlorella vulgaris using an algal growth inhibition test (OECD201). Chlorella vulgaris was grown in positive Zander (Z-8 + N) media in a growth chamber. Afte...
متن کاملEnhanced copper tolerance in Silene vulgaris (Moench) Garcke populations from copper mines is associated with increased transcript levels of a 2b-type metallothionein gene.
Silene vulgaris (Moench) Garcke has evolved populations with extremely high levels of copper tolerance. To evaluate the role of metallothioneins (MTs) in copper tolerance in S. vulgaris, we screened a cDNA library derived from a highly copper-tolerant population using Arabidopsis-based MT probes and identified an MT2b-like gene. When expressed in yeast, this gene, SvMT2b, restored cadmium and c...
متن کاملComparison between the Physiological Responses of Ankistrodesmus Falcatus and Chlorella Vulgaris to Copper
The physiological and biochemical responses of two green algae Ankistrodesmus falcatus and Chlorella vulgaris to copper sulphate were investigated. In this experiment both Ankistrodesmus and Chlorella cultures were treated with copper sulphate concentrations ranging from 0. 5 to 250 μM. The influence of copper on growth and metabolism was determined. Ankistrodesmus grown at 250 μM copper sulpha...

In this study, we investigated the bioaccumulation of copper (Cu) by microgreen algae Scenedesmus acutus and Chlorella vulgaris and toxicity of dietborne copper from algae to benthic ostracod Heterocypris incongruens. Scenedesmus acutus and C. vulgaris were exposed to different concentrations of waterborne Cu for 10 days then the ostracod was fed this food exclusively under 24h dark condition f...

In addition to biochemical, physiological and morphological analysis, molecular studies provide additional information for establishing phylogenetic relationships among different species and strains of the genus Dunaliella. In the present study, based on neighbor- joining analysis of the nuclear rDNA ITS sequence, a novel strain of the green algae Dunaliella viridis was identified from Maharlu ...
